Mercedes-Benz BlueZEROThe concept of near-series Mercedes-Benz E-SEL PLUS BlueZERO electric car combines an environmentally friendly electric mobility in the city with unlimited fitness to drive long distances. Are things made possible by a combination of battery-electric drive with internal combustion engines. Range extender gives BlueZERO E-SEL PLUS total coverage of up to 600 kilometers, with 100 kilometers of it solely under electric and thus free from local emissions. The BlueZERO E-SEL PLUS is part of a family of electric cars built modularly, which will enable Mercedes-Benz to meet all customer needs for sustainable mobility in the future. In variant concept vehicle, the electric motor from a pure battery-powered BlueZERO E-SEL combined with an additional three-cylinder, turbocharged gasoline engine. Putting out 50 kW, a compact combustion engine installed in the rear axle area and can charge the battery while the car was driven. CO2 bonus for battery-electric drive mode reduce vehicle emissions only 32 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

Range extender allows BlueZERO E-SEL PLUS driving up to 600 km, which up to 100 km can be driven in electric mode with zero local emissions. Long-range combination make BlueZERO E-SEL PLUS fully suitable for everyday use and ensure that the customer will achieve his goals even with a discharged battery. After all, cars can be refuelled quickly and easily in a normal gas station.

Battery with advanced lithium-ion technology

During the rapid filling with filling capacity of 20 kW, high performance, 18 kWh lithium-ion batteries from BlueZERO E-SEL PLUS can store enough power in about 30 minutes to 50 kilometers distance. Electric stove complete 100 kilometers of charging takes a little more than an hour. Charging time with standard cost cycle in a conventional household outlet with a 3.3 kW is approximately 6 hours. Special on-board electronics to support intelligent charging station and billing systems used by the fueling station electricity. Benefits of lithium-ion batteries compared with other technologies, including their compact dimensions, high output and energy density, high cost efficiency and long service life.

Concept BlueZERO – electric mobility triad
Mercedes-Benz BlueZERO
Mercedes-Benz is showing the way for electric mobility environment compatible with the concept BlueZERO series. Modular concept of intelligent vehicle architecture enables the vehicle to be used to create three models with different drive system configuration.

• The BlueZERO E-SEL PLUS is equipped with electric drive and an additional combustion engine with an electric generator (range extender). The car has a total coverage of up to 600 kilometers, which up to 100 miles can be closed only on electricity.

• Originally presented in Detroit at the beginning of the year, BlueZERO E CELL driven exclusively by battery-powered electric drive that allows a car to travel up to 200 miles on one battery charge and completely free local emissions.

• The third drive version is powered fuel cells BlueZERO F-CELL, a distance of about 400 km on electricity and therefore also no local emissions.

All three models feature BlueZERO front-wheel drive, which is typical for this class car. Drive components have been modularly organized by Mercedes engineers and can be combined as required. This includes state-of-the-art liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery with up to 35 kWh capacity, and a compact electric motor with a maximum output of 100 kW (continuous output: 70 kW). The maximum torque of 320 Nm is available from the first electric motor revolution, and it now exceeds the value achieved by a V6 gasoline engine at 2500 rpm. Like his two younger models, BlueZERO E-SEL and F-SEL BlueZERO, which BlueZERO E-SEL PLUS can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in less than eleven seconds. To Ensure the optimum range and energy efficiency, the top speed is electronically limited to 150 km / h.

“The concept offers three demonstration BlueZERO technical maturity of alternative propulsion systems from Mercedes-Benz. Electric vehicle with battery electric drive system or fuel cell will not actually be on the same footing with the current internal combustion engine drive system until the customer is confident that there is adequate infrastructure, electricity and fueling stations hydrogen, “said Prof. Herbert Kohler, Head of E-Drive and the Future of Mobility and Chief Environmental Officer of Daimler.

Concept BlueZERO: Modular architecture for flexibility and efficiency

BlueZERO three variants were developed on the basis of a unique sandwich floor known architecture of the A-Class and B-Class. The advantage of the enhanced design is the key component in the drive mounted underbody of vehicles so that they take less space, make sure that both the center of gravity, and protected to the fullest. Therefore BlueZERO different models of electric cars designed in the conventional, heavy and thick storage battery mounted on the boot, for example, or in the back seat area. All three variants share BlueZERO key technology components are identical and have the design and dimensions of vehicles. Although they have a compact exterior dimensions, which is 4.22 meters long, has a broad BlueZERO model and versatile interior and cargo space. Vehicles’ five full size seats, about 450 kilograms payload, and more than 500 liters of cargo capacity makes them suitable family car.

“Our modular system license different configurations for each customer’s needs,” says Dr Thomas Weber, Member of the Daimler Board of Management responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. “The sandwich floor fixed platform which serves as the perfect base for a variety of vehicles with electric drive. We are developing an additional platform for future compact model drive system that uses an internal combustion engine is optimized. Pintar connect the two architectures will enable us to expand our product range highly flexible and efficient. Starting in 2009, we will produce a small batch first Mercedes fuel cell car. In 2010, they will be followed by a small batch of Mercedes-Benz vehicles that run solely on electricity supplied by a battery. Thanks to the step these measures, we are well positioned for the future. ”

Electric-powered vehicles are fun to drive

Mercedes-Benz vehicles will continue to incorporate environmental awareness and driving fun in the future. One way in which the Mercedes-Benz designers have emphasized this aspiration is to introduce the paint finish in ALU-BEAM three new colors. Each of the three variants of the individuals making mark: ALU-BEAM Confident Copper BlueZERO selected for E-SEL PLUS. The BlueZERO E-SEL painted fresh yellow ALU-BEAM; the BlueZERO F-CELL appears on ALU-BEAM green.

Mercedes-Benz felt it would not just one technology that opened the way for sustainable mobility in the future, however. Instead the company is responding with solutions that every bit as diverse as the demands. Individual technologies used in certain applications where they can provide the greatest benefits of consumption and emissions optimal value. Mercedes-Benz viewed the development of electric cars with batteries and fuel cell drive for zero-emission driving locally as a means to complete a very clean and economical BlueEFFICIENCY and hybrid vehicles already available today. However, unlimited and convenient operation of the electric car is still facing a series of challenges, including the high cost of the system, lack of infrastructure and short-range power. Advanced diesel and gasoline engines will remain the driving force for car for a long time to come – not only for individual mobility in passenger cars (especially long-distance), but more importantly, for trucking transportation. Despite all the progress that Mercedes-Benz has once again so firmly documented BlueZERO concept, electric cars will not replace the vehicle with a combustion engine in the near future. In the electrification of the modern, high-tech machine will, however, play an increasingly important role in the drive system of the future mix.
