* Taurus avoid collision sophisticated technology, including advanced radar collision warning system enables and Cross Traffic Alert warns the driver that hard-to-see traffic parking, is well received by consumers

Sales are strong-new 2010 Ford Taurus has earned top five-star crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and see a good consumer response to a suite of advanced-technology to avoid accidents.

Ford‘s flagship sedan with a design before a “Top Safety Pick” from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Ford Motor Company has more IIHS “Top Safety Picks” and the five-star NHTSA ratings than other cars.

“The new Ford Taurus is a boat safety with the safety ratings and advanced crash-crash-protection and avoid technology that you may not find a luxury car that cost twice as much,” said Sue Cischke, Vice President Ford‘s group for Sustainable, Environmental and Safety Engineering. “A rigid body structure and a new crash-avoidance technology makes Taurus more secure.”

Safety sells

Taurus new-technology features to avoid accidents, such as segment-first, radar-based forward collision warning system that helps drivers avoid accidents. The system, made possible by the Adaptive Cruise Control, using radar sensors to detect moving vehicles ahead and give a visual “heads-up” warning signals and warning sounds when the traffic is moving slowly forward detected.

One of the three buyers Taurus Limited AWD choose to Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Warning with Brake Support system, as well as nearly half of the Taurus Sho buyers.

New Taurus sell faster than its main competitors in the full-size segment – Toyota Avalon, Chevrolet Impala, Buick LaCrosse and Chrysler 300 – recording double-digit percentage, years of growth, the Taurus marketing manager said Pei-Wen Hsu.

“The remarkable thing is that more than 90 percent of customers ordering Taurus higher end of the series or additional technologies such as fuel-efficient EcoBoost (TM) Ford engines and advanced security features,” said Hsu. “The car was pulled younger, more diverse and rich customers than in the past.”

Safety leadership to grow

The new 2010 Taurus earned five-star and “Top Safety Pick” ratings are based on some advanced features such as Personal Safety System (TM) – a suite of protection technologies, including dual-stage front airbags and front passenger’s weight classification, who work together to help protect passengers in moderate to severe crash. Ford-exclusive Safety Canopy ® features side curtain air bags that help protect front and rear passengers in the second boat rollover and side impact crashes.

New Taurus also features some of the first industrial side air bag that uses pressure pulses from the side effects of using up to 30 percent faster than traditional air bags with sensors based acceleration. Based pressure sensor is more accurate to measure the severity of the accident to better distinguish between the potentially serious air bag-deployable accidents and less serious accidents that do not require air bag protection.

Other important safety features include:

* Improved Side Protection and Cabin (SPACE ®) architecture consists of a hydroformed cross-car beam is embedded in the floor between the door frame, providing additional strength in the side of the vehicle.
* Trinity Front Crash Architecture is a new body structure optimized for strength and rigidity. Energy-absorbing structure features octagonal front frame rails, engine cradle / subframe front and “shotgun” front structural members designed to absorb and direct crash forces away from the passenger compartment.
* AdvanceTrac ® with ESC (Electronic Stability Control) constantly monitors road conditions and driver responses, by using sensors to detect and measure oversteer and yaw the vehicle to help detect and prevent dangerous conditions.

More driver-assistance technology and security

New Taurus features a segment-exclusive other-safety and driver assistance technologies such as MyKey (TM), which helps parents encourage their teenagers to drive safer with a top speed and audio limits, as well as a “no belt, no songs” feature mutes the audio system if the front seatbelts are not buckled.

Taurus also helps reduce stress by Common Blind Spot Information System (BLIS ®) which uses two multiple beam radar modules to detect and help alert drivers of approaching vehicles entering the defined blind spot zone. Cross Traffic Alert uses the radar module traffic BLIS felt as it slowly backed out of the parking lot.

“We want to help the driver avoid accidents while giving them enhanced protection when the accident happened,” said Steve Cossacks, the chief engineer, Ford’s Safety Systems.
