Mercedes Vito E-Cell is the first commercial electric vehicle produced in series by the German company. A very important challenge for the market for these types of cars, so far found only with conversions made by companies outside the model. The new Vito and Cell-electric, equipped with the latest aesthetic restyling that also involved the release Viano passengers, will be built in 100 copies by the end of 2010, and 2000 units are planned in 2011. The distribution of vehicles will depart from the cities of Berlin and Stuttgart and Spain: the first 100 vehicles will be used for 4 years and 80,000 kilometers with a rental formula, to collect data on usage.

According to the studies of Mercedes, the new Vito electric traction will be particularly important for use in urban settlements where the issue of emissions is particularly important, also with automento the cost of diesel fuel savings of electric traction is particularly evident: charging the batteries at night by Vito E-Cell you can get a savings of 4 to 7 times thicker than the corresponding diesel versions. The autonomy of Vito E-Cell is 130 km and top speed is limited to 80 km / h, further incentive to use almost exclusively urban, however this does not mean giving up the scope, fixed at 900 kg of goods. The electric motor delivers maximum power of 70 kW and a torque of 280 Nm and is mated to a Single speed transmission with front-wheel drive, while models with combustion engines keep back.

The lithium-ion batteries are under 36 kwh to the loading area, where normally stay shaft and tank, so do not take much space in the compartment. The 16 modules for a total of 192 cells, are controlled by a system that maximizes the consumption and replenishment, making it actually available and only 32 kWh are water cooled. The total recharge takes 6 hours with on-board charger with nets 380/400 volts, while time can be doubled using homemade 230 volt line, but obviously the real time are always considered by calculating a residual energy.
