2013 Volkswagen BlueSport

As reported by Autocar, the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show will be presented to the Volkswagen brand new mid-engine roadster. The model will be the production version of the concept BlueSport, exhibited at the Detroit Motor Show 2009. The car will debut on the market in early 2014 and will confirm the main features of the concept car: 2-seat cockpit, canvas roof and mass less than 1,200 kg.

Volkswagen BlueSport series will debut the new rear-drive platform that MMB will be shared with Audi and Porsche, are also willing to propose a compact mid-engined sports car. The new pitafforma share many components with the platform of the Golf MQB 7, from suspension. In addition, the modular design allows different sizes between the BlueSport and derivatives with the brands Audi and Porsche.

Another new feature of the main series will BlueSport Volkswagen 1.6 TSI engine with 220 hp, matched with 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG. This unit will be also adopted by Golf and Scirocco, and the model S1 Audi and Volkswagen Polo R. Most likely, the roadster Wolfsburg will not be available with the TDI engine, proposed instead the concept BlueSport.
