After EV-1 is the name of an electric bike entirely developed in Spain with the aim to create a bike, small and handy, suitable for city traffic. The manufacturer has in mind to give this bike two engines, a 30-hp and 15 hp, both with a range of 70 km and rechargeable through a 220V electrical outlet. The new EV-1 electric bike Volta also has a style that brings her closer to some recent achievements including traditional and even the color that closely recalls the old Kawasaki, though, to be fair, the analogies with the motion of the House of Akashi end there.
The bike is still under construction, however, that his technical equipment is evolving and its final version is not likely to see that end of the year, it seems certain is that the news could also affect our market, but in this case the time appear far more uncertain.
This is the second project after the Spanish Mius completely electric, electric scooter that will Rieju at EICMA 2010, together with other news: a good sign for the Iberian Peninsula, the market where the bikes are traditionally strong enough, thanks to the large number Iberian pilots (Jorge Lorenzo, Toni Elias, Marc Marquez, etc..) committed to success in motor racing on two wheels.
It still remains however the problem still limited autonomy of the batteries, the real Achilles heel of electric traction and why I still maintain that the market is more interested in hybrids, which appear as a reasonable compromise for now.
