Opel Junior

The Opel looks to the future with the desire to produce a small car for crowded cities: the Junior. The name of the city car of the Opel is temporary, but relies on the development of the Trixx concept car of 2004. It will be a small car which will benchmark itself against other rivals, in a segment that sees the iQ, the Topolino, the Up! and the ForTwo. A small car to be built entirely in Germany and will have, in addition, also of lithium batteries, be prepared for power supply.

The managing director of Opel, Nick Reilly, speaking of the forthcoming city car of his brand of cars, informs that would make his debut in the market for 2013. A project, however, much discussed and, perhaps, opposed by General Motors, which controls Opel, who thought that the project could hamper the city’s Junior of the Chevrolet car.

The explanation is that the small Opel Junior is placed in a niche of cars still smaller than the Chevrolet brand, while not affecting anything for that segment. The small Opel Junior, in fact, is considered a three-seater (a), to be placed in a segment, however, already fierce, as evidenced by the presence of the above mentioned car brands.

Opel has already identified the site of production: that of Eisenach, Thuringia. Was earmarked for the occasion, EUR 90 million and the project will employ 1,600 people. At the same time, it will be located from the plant for the preparation of the Corsa, a Saragossa.
