The Volkswagen Polo R will arrive in 2012, according to reports from Autocar. This is the high-performance version of the Polo, which will be equipped with the new 1.6 TSI engine from 215 hp, but the combined front-wheel drive. In addition, the Polo R will be the first model of the newly formed division R GmbH and Volkswagen models will complement their existing Golf and Scirocco R R.
The future R Polo will be positioned a step above the Polo GTI, expected to be available during the summer. The Volkswagen Polo GTI is powered by the 1.4 TSI engine with 180 hp, paired with 7-speed DSG included as standard. The Polo GTI will be available in body variants with 3 and 5-door, while the Volkswagen Polo R will be built – most likely – only in three-door version.
