
Continues to develop the second generation of the Volkswagen Beetle that will be presented this year in November, in the form of concept cars at the Motor Show in Los Angeles. The standard version will debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011 and a year later comes the Cabriolet version. The Beetle will continue to be assembled in the plant in Puebla, Mexico, where the new Jetta will be produced also. The two cars will share the new platform, featuring a large step which will provide more cabin space for Beetle.
Regarding the design, the new Volkswagen Beetle will continue to be inspired by the famous ancestor, but also saw increases in overall dimensions, the body will present new cosmetic changes to the current and shared with the rest of the range. An insider told Autocar that Klaus Bischoff, Head of VW design center, will take some design solutions of Ragster, the concept car on a New Beetle on display at the Detroit Motor Show 2005. Moreover, the luggage capacity is increased to 250 liters.
Under the hood, the engines of the Beetle will adopt new concepts, the 1.2 TSI petrol and 105 hp 1.4 TSI 160 bhp and the 1.6 TDI diesel with 105 hp and 140 hp 2.0 TDI. At the top of the range will be the 2.0 TSI from 211 hp to be the preserve of sports Beetle R, while in the U.S. range of engines will be limited to 2.5 petrol five-cylinder 170 hp. It is not ruled out the creation of the Volkswagen Beetle Hybrid, with the same hybrid system of the NCC concept, consisting of heat engine with 150 hp 1.4 TSI engine combined with electric 27 hp.
