“The drivers want to drive greener cars without them resemble traditional products.” The extravagance of Kia Ray, presented at the show in Chicago, is imposed by Peter Schreyer, responsible for the design, to respect the wishes of the buyers. This prototype should be considered as an experiment to extend a day, this dogma to products that will be marketed in the series. The Korean sedan is designed to occupy the D-segment (4.40 m long, 1.85 wide and 1:36 in height), but controversial with some styling cues from the apparent impact scene.
Particularly surprising in the transition between the rear upright and volume, with a massive tail rendered even more powerful by the nearly horizontal rear window: it receives the aerodynamics (Cd of 0.25), minus the eye. If the aesthetic proves difficult to interpret, you can not write as much for its technical sector. The Kia Ray uses a thermal engine to 153 horsepower 1.4-liter, combined with a Continuously Variable Transmission which also operates the hybrid system powered by lithium-ion battery. The presence of an electric motor (78 kW) on the rear axle also allows the system to direct the traction control on two axes (front, rear or full) as a function of driving dynamics.
The Kia Ray can travel 80.5 km in electric mode only consumes just 1.2 liters of fuel per 100 km when the two engines support each other. Its top speed is 175 km / h.
