An unmanned Audi TTS has traveled an impressive distance of 20 km in height in 27 minutes. The important result of the car robot has been certified by the organizers of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, a proof that no car has ever concluded in less than 10 minutes. The special autonomous driving car was designed and built directly from Audi, with the collaboration of engineers at Stanford University, Oracle and Electronics Research Lab of Volkswagen Group of Palo Alto, California.
“Our goal is not to replace the driver – said prof. Chris Gerdes, Stanford – On the contrary, we want to understand how the best drivers control the car so as to develop electronic assistance systems that can assist not only our driver robot, but in the future you and me. ”
The car used in the test is based on the Audi TTS and uses a special guidance system connected to its 265-hp engine. The car is full of computers, two of them in the trunk: one is used to perform the functions of a program in Java Runtime Oracle, the second runs the algorithms that control the dynamics of driving. A GPS system allows to follow predetermined paths.
