Lorinser will present at the show in Essen Easybrid system, installed for the occasion on a Smart ForTwo. The idea is to add an electric motor to a conventional car, so you may achieve a low-cost hybrid, which can travel in electric only mode with zero emissions. The solution has been studied considering cars with drum brakes on the rear axle, like the Volkswagen Polo, Renault Twingo and Fiat 500, in addition to the Smart For Two. The system includes two electric motors mounted on the wheel hub coaxial with function recovery of braking energy in very small dimensions: in fact the batteries are mounted in the spare wheel compartment or under the frame.
If we exclude the specific application on the Smart, the system also allows you to transform Easybrid small cars in front-wheel drive wheel drive, with all the benefits of the event bad weather or low grip surfaces. I paid about 30 kW in total are in fact adding to those of the internal combustion engine and the driver to decide whether to use only one of the engines or the combination of the two, for higher performance. In the specific case of the application Smart, the autonomy of lithium batteries in electric mode is the third km, while the total is 550 km, whereas the petrol version.
Lorinser is already playing for a long time and is expected to test marketing the system already in 2011, with a commercial formula that will involve the supply of energy companies with subscription formulas for users and rental charges for the battery packs. The cost of installing the system Easybrid is about 5000 euros, without considering possible incentives, but do not know the details of the installation (such as the modification of the same braking system) nor the specific approval of the vehicle turned.
